TPS makes it as finalist for the Railway Industry Innovation Awards 2018. We have been selected in the Environment category within this year’s Railway Industry Innovation Awards competition due to our innovative DC-DC Power Module!
TPS’ successful 100kW DC-DC power module is integrated into power conversion systems and it uses cutting edge Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs in its design. As a result, the power module increases power conversion efficiency and provides a durable galvanic isolation from input to output. This way it ensures protection for other equipment within the environment.
This product has been awarded “Power System Product of the Year” in 2016 within the renowned Elektra Awards ceremony and has also been shortlisted in the Product Innovation category at UK Rail Industry Awards this year. As we continuously strive to exceed expectations by developing innovative and sustainable solutions, being chosen as finalists again is a recognition of our credibility and efforts.
The Railway Industry Innovation Awards were founded in 1998 and represent the longest-standing awards scheme in the industry. This annual event aims to gather all players within the railway sector, or anyone who is interested in innovative developments in this area, to celebrate the brightest ideas in the industry. Within this event, we have been previously awarded with a Highly Commended Certificate in 2017 for our Mark 3 static converters developed in collaboration with Chiltern Railways.
The winners of this prestigious award will be announced during the Awards Ceremony which will take place on Friday 22nd June at the Hilton, Paddington in London. We are extremely happy to share that we have been awarded twice for our Static Converter at the UK Rail Industry Awards ceremony (UKRIA) upon being shortlisted in 5 categories! This is the second time TPS have won in the Traction & Rolling Stock category, however this year we were selected as winners for Cost Base Reduction as well. The event took place at Battersea Evolution, London on 22nd March 2018.
TPS have won amongst impressive competitors that have also provided truly remarkable solutions. This demonstrates that our experience and capabilities are indeed outstanding and that our expertise allows us to offer highly reliable power conversion solutions to the rolling stock industry.
We have received two awards this year due to our efficient and reliable Static Converter which replaces the Motor Alternator (MA) equipment installed in loco-hauled coaches and trains powered through Thirdrail. Our innovative Power Supply can increase energy efficiency, provide substantial savings to the train operator and could lead to energy savings of over 4kW per journey compared to a motor alternator (MA) set. The Static Converter uses the existing mounting arrangement thus minimising conversion costs and provides a modern electronic MA replacement fully compliant with all rolling stock and network rail standards.

2018 Shortlistings for the UK Rail Industry Awards (UKRIA) have been announced! During this distinguished awards ceremony, UKRIA aims to select and bring together the most important players within the UK rail industry.

UKRIA 2018 winners will be announced on the 22nd of March at the Battersea Evolution in London.

We are delighted to be displaying our Dual and Tri-Terminal converters that facilitate the creation of Soft Open Points (SOPs) on the Distribution Network with the purpose of capacity sharing. These power electronic devices are making use of spare network capacity at existing substations to enable Distributed Generation and Low Carbon Technologies.
Our Dual and Tri-Terminal converters were awarded with the “Best Electricity Network Improvement” at the Energy Innovation Awards 2015. They have also received first place at UK EIA 2017 in the Losses competition for having a significant impact on improving losses on the electricity distribution network. TPS’ innovative converters were installed in multiple sites across London and Brighton.
