TPS wins award at UKRIA 2016 for ‘Traction and Rolling Stock’ category.

We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to share that we have won under ‘Traction and Rolling Stock’ category at UKRIA Awards 2016 held at Battersea Evolution, London on 11th Feb 2016. This is one of the 23 coveted UK Rail Industry Awards and we won against staggering number of entries all of exceptional quality. This is proof of TPS’s credibility and capability to offer robust power conversion solutions to the rolling stock industry. No wonder we are trusted by global customers to deliver quality and reliable solutions.

We received the award for innovation, planning and execution on Class 321 air conditioning power supply project. The power supply was developed to meet the demands of the air conditioning system installed in the Class 321 fleet. All of the power supply components are housed in a single, under floor mounted, naturally cooled steel enclosure. The equipment is ruggedly constructed to withstand severe rail environment and the unique design technique provides extremely reliable performance during operation. The power supply includes a comprehensive monitoring system which records events and conditions reported by the control system. The power supply also comes with a portable test equipment software whereby the train operator can plug-in a laptop computer and can diagnose the system. Please refer to link below for additional information on the product.

How to Reduce the Total Life Cycle Cost of Your Fleet

If these improvements sound like something you need to do, and you want to work with a company who’s customers are the largest train operators in the UK, then it sounds like you need our Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Services.

Saving money and going green, the TPS way

The majority of electricity consumed by TPS for test of its electrical products has, up to recent times, been burnt off as waste heat in load-banks. To address this, a novel power electronic converter capable of re-cycling this energy has been developed by TPS’ engineering team to reduce electricity consumption by up to 90%; significantly reducing energy costs whilst improving the company’s green credentials.

Beyond these savings, the innovation has eliminated the need for an additional generating set to meet factory demand at times of peak consumption, creating a further saving through the avoidance of additional power plant hire.
Energy recycling unit
Power to the people…..
The energy recycling project was suggested by TPS employees through the Stakeholder Forum – a quarterly meeting seeking out the opinions and involvement of employees in the day to day running of the business. Illustrated below, the recycling unit uses one of our modified variable speed power electronic motor drives to feed energy back to the incoming supply.
